Why are Key Dates used?

They are used to ensure that a Contractor finishes a part of the works to a definite timescale so that other parts of the works can proceed. Key Dates, therefore, are frequently used where the Employer has two or more contractors carrying out work on the same project and their activities are interdependent e.g. the building may need to be watertight before the M&E contractor can begin work.
