What should be included in an activity schedule for a refurbishment project?
This can be done in four steps. Firstly, everything from the drawings should be taken off and priced up. Secondly, this should be broken down into activities which sit below operations in the Contractor’s programme as this minimises the number of statements of how the Contractor will do his work and statements of principal resources. Thirdly, if Option A: Priced contract with activity schedule is used, activities should be broken down into small parts. Under this option, the Contractor gets paid only when activities are complete; long activities which last for months will be detrimental to cashflow. Lastly, the completed state of the project should be accurately described so that it is clear when the works are finished.
