Rates only items on BOQ

In a BOQ sometimes there are 'rates only ’ items and those do not add up to the Total Prices.Before these are carried out,is there a need to raise a compensation event?And which clause supports that in the NEC 3.

@stevencevans can you advise?

I don’t fully understand the question you are asking.

Under clause 11.2(31), the “Prices” are (1) any lump sum items in the BOQ; and (2) amounts obtained by multiplying the rates by the quantities for the other items in the BOQ.

All of the Prices, should add up to the total of the Prices? Not sure if I have missed something here.

You do not need to notify a CE before carrying out work for which there is a rate in the BOQ. You get paid for this work on a remeasurable basis. See clause 11.2(28) which gives the definition of the “Price for Work Done to Date”.

Hope this helps.
