Sectional Completion after Completion

NEC3 ECSC Option A - Where a CE impacts a Sectional Completion, then the date will move. If this impacts Completion, then this will also move Completion. If the logic changes which means a Sectional Completion is no longer on the critical path of the project then Completion does not change but this could result in a Sectional Completion date being after Completion, can this be the case?

Dates simplified for an example

Sectional Completion 1 - 25/03/2025

Sectional Completion 2 - 31/03/2025

Completion - 31/03/2025

CE raised and implemented for 10 day impact on Sectional Completion 2 and Completion

New Contract Dates

Sectional Completion 1 - 25/03/2025 (+0 days)

Sectional Completion 2 - 10/04/2025 (+10 days)

Completion - 10/04/2025 (+10 days)

A number of months into the project, the logic has changed which means that Sectional Completion 2 is forecast to be completed ahead of Sectional Completion 1, with Sectional Completion 1 driving planned completion.

CE2 raised for 2 day impact on Sectional Completion 2. As this does not impact upon planned completion, there is no change to Completion

New Contract Dates

Sectional Completion 1 - 25/03/2025 (+0 days)

Sectional Completion 2 - 12/04/2025 (+2 days)

Completion - 10/04/2025 (+0 days)

In this scenario, Sectional Completion 2 would now be after the Completion Date, is this feasible and correct?

In principle, yes a Sectional Completion Date does not have to be on the critical path for overall Completion, so the extended Sectional Completion Date would not extend the Completion Date for the whole of the works. It would not be logical for a Sectional Completion Date to be beyond the overall Completion Date but if the work required for the Sectional Completion Date was not required for the overall Completion Date then it is feasible for the Sectional Completion Date to be later than the overall Completion Date. I suggest you check what is required for Completion.
