JCT main contract

Can an unamended standard JCT sub-contract be used to procure specialised trades in circumstances where there is no JCT main contract (or any main contract) above (i.e. for all intents and purposes, the employer will act as main contractor and procure trades directly using the JCT standard sub-contract)?

What are the key risks of procuring specialised trades in this way?

The best thing to do here would be use a JCT trade contract and appoint a construction manager. these are standard documents that can be purchased from the JCT.

Thanks Mike. That makes perfect sense from my perspective (the sub-contractor). However, if the main contractor is adamant about using a JCT sub-contract, can this work in practice here without amending the dozens of JCT sub-contract clauses that cross refer to a JCT main contract?
