NEC4 Option C SOCC Sick Pay

We have recently had members of staff of sick. We have SOCC build-ups for each person giving a total cost to employ and divided this by the available working hours to give an hourly cost. When the member of staff is off ill we recalculate the available working hours and apply the new hourly cost. We originally had an allowance of 5 days for sickness but this was knocked back as it was in effect a forecast. But now we have had the new hourly charge rejected as we did not provide an alternative person to fill the role and the customer states sick pay is only payable if a replacement is used. I do not agree with this statement as this is not stated in the SOCC and we do not have people available to fill in for 1 day when someone is sick. Has anyone else had any similar issues with sick pay?
