Client wishes to change scope


I have a question. A client wishes to add a service into the Contractors scope.

Should they ask the Service Manager to get a quotation through a proposed instruction?

I assume the service manager has to do this as they are the only party that can change the scope

Assuming your question relates to NEC4 TSC then yes you are right the only person authorised to issue instructions is the Service Manager. They have two choices (1) instruct a change to the Scope and deal with the consequences as a CE or (2) instruct the Contractor to submit a quotation for a proposed change to the Scope and either accept it or not. Option 2 is always preferable if time allows however if the Service Manager requires the change but isn’t happy with the cost then their only choice after trying option 2 is to use option 1.
