With regard to the existing Building Regulations, what is stated regarding alternative escape routes with regard to fire?

The documentation states that access to an alternative escape route should be via one of the following sources:

	 a protected stairway to an upper storey;

	 a landing located within a protected stairway enclosure which leads to an alternative escape route on the same storey;

	 a protected stairway about 7.5 metres above ground level, separated by some form of fireproof construction.
