With regard to public procurement, what is the purpose of the Office of Government Commerce (OGC)?

This office report to the British Treasury, and has a broad remit which is essentially intended to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of central government procurement in the UK. The OGC is also involved in developing and promoting private sector involvement across the public sector.
