NEC3 Opt B quotation

Does the Contractor get paid for the time it takes the QS to produce a quotation under NEC3?

Not over and above what’s already included for in prelims. Presumably the QS is mobilised to the project at a set number of days per week and the preparation of quotes is included in that time.

Put simply, if there was an item in a quote which sought to recover the costs associated with preparing said quote it wouldn’t be entertained.

Under ECC Option B the contract sets out how CEs are assessed under clause 63.10 and 63.13 and a few other clauses, most of this is concerned with valuing the works rather than QS producing the quote for the CE… but the wording of 11.2.(22) states "(22) Defined Cost is the cost of the components in the Shorter Schedule of Cost Components whether work is subcontracted or not “excluding the cost of preparing quotations for compensation events”, so I cannot see any scenario where you could recover the QS’s costs directly in the quote under Option B. Logically you should have priced this into the fee percentage quoted in the contract data before you started this work at tender stage… (again because clause 52.1 states if you cannot recover it as Defined Cost you must include it in your Fee). Hope thats makes sense, even if its not what you want to hear. the answer to this question is different under ECC Option C/E/F and some of the others forms in the suite.
