With regards to the Buildings Act 1984, what do local authorities have the authority to do?

The authorities are entitled to do the following:

  •       remove anything in contravention of the act;

  •       require you to complete alterations in compliance with the act;

  •       instruct a third-party to remove or rebuild offending buildings

  •       in extreme cases take individuals to court.
