Procurement: To what extent is there scope to include environmental issues within the procurement process?

There is huge scope to do so, as environmental issues relate directly to that which is being procured. Thus, they are easier to account for than social issues, although all issues must be included in such a way as to be consistent with the European Union Treaty principles of non-discrimination, transparency and equal treatment, not to mention the legislative rules for each stage of the procurement process which are detailed within the EU procurement directive and the UK Regulations.
