# NEC ECS: What is the purpose of naming the Employer/Client and Project Manager in CD1?

What is the real purpose of naming the Employer (or Client now under NEC4) and the Project Manager in contract data part 1 of an ECS contract? As a Subcontractor to a main contractor, I have no contract with Employer, can not follow any of their instructions, so what is the real point of them being named apart from purely general information??
