# If a local authority wishes for an owner to demolish a dangerous building, can the authority compel the owner to carry out preparatory work?

Yes, should this be the case the local authority will require the following in advance of the demolition:

```
	to shore up any adjacent building;

	to weatherproof any exposed surfaces of adjacent buildings;

	to repair repair any damage caused to adjacent buildings;

	to remove all rubbish from the site after demolition;

	to disconnect sewers and drainage under the building;

	to repair the surface of the ground disturbed by the demolition;

	arrange for suitable professional person(s) to disconnect gas, water and electricity.
```
