JCT Named Subcontractor

Under a live JCT ICD, if a client or architect obtains a subcontractor quote for a specialist package of work and the main contractor agrees to employ the specialist (eg for a glazing package); what responsibility if any does the client retain for the subcontractor? Or are they seen as a domestic subcontractor with the main contractor taking full responsibility? They were not formally Named under the contract.

This seems like a situation more likely to be a domestic subcontractor. From what you say there is no requirement or imposition on the contractor to appoint this particular subcontractor. If there was a compulsion to use the identified subcontractor then the Employer may retain some liability for quality and time/cost overruns but I would need more detail to give guidance on that.
